My Little Garden 10th Feb 2024

I’m writing this on Thursday lunchtime, whilst keeping an eye out for all the snow that has been forecast. There’s been wind, rain, and even a touch of sleet, but most definitely no snow for my birthday.

On the one dry day this week, which was Wednesday, I ventured into Manchester to take some photos of Depot Mayfield, which will play host to the new RHS Urban Show in April. It was pretty bleak apart from a few hellebores and the odd crocus, but interesting nevertheless, and a welcome green space for that part of the city.

I’ve done very little in my garden, and the miserable weather has meant that nothing much has changed. In other words, don’t expect anything too exciting for Six on Saturday. Having set your expectations, these are my choices from what’s available.

  1. Galanthus elwesii

Still in a pot as I’m debating the final destination.

2. Evergreen

Euphorbia ‘Ascot Rainbow’ is doing a great job in the front garden.

3. Iris

Iris reticulata ‘Katherine’s Gold’ has popped up in the border.

4. Crocus

I’m cheating slightly with this one because I took the photo last week but didn’t share it. The crocus are still flowering, but the lack of sun has meant they’re all closed up this week.

5. Hellebore

Penny’s Pink is coming along nicely and it’s a little earlier than last year.

6. Another iris.

Harmony has popped up in the middle of a clump of asters. I’m not sure how this happened, but I’m happy to see a clump of blue.

Hopefully there’ll be a bit of progress next week, but then again the forecast isn’t good. How predictable for the half term holidays!

Have a good weekend, and thank you for reading.
