My Little Garden 11th Feb 2023

It’s been all about the snowdrops this week. Last Sunday, I went with friends to the snowdrop walk at Rode Hall, and then I escaped from the builders in my kitchen for a similar experience at Arley Hall mid-week. And am I tired of snowdrops? Absolutely not.

I made a purchase at Rode Hall. A single snowdrop for £5 with proceeds to charity. Galanthus ‘S Arnott’ is named after Samual Arnott who was a keen gardener and galanthophile, and it has a lovely fragrance. Until last Sunday I didn’t even know that there were scented snowdrops, which just goes to show that I have a lot to learn.

After that introduction, I think I’d better start off my six of the week with the aforementioned snowdrop.

  1. Galanthus ‘S Arnott’

Beautifully simple.

2. Hellebore

Last week I included a photo of a hellebore wrongly calling it ‘Penny’s Pink’. It was actually ‘Ice n’ Roses’, but this is definitely ‘Penny’s Pink’ still in bud.

3. Iris number 1

The iris have finally started flowering in the borders. This one is ‘Harmony’….. I think.

4. Iris number 2

Just pipped to the ‘first to flower’ post was ‘Alida’.

5. Iris number 3

And this is just a random one that popped up in the middle of nowhere. I really don’t remember planting this.

6. Yellow crocus

And last but not least, the yellow crocus are appearing in various places around the garden.

Last week it was the yellow of the winter aconites, this week it’s the turn of the yellow crocus. Will it be the first daffodils next? I doubt it, but who knows.

Have a good gardening weekend.
