My Little Garden 11th Nov 2023

What can I say about last week except that the weather has been absolutely dire at times. I’ve still not planted any tulip bulbs, but fortunately, most other autumn jobs have been done, so I’m not too concerned. I really wish the rain would just stop now, though. Enough is enough.

I managed a couple of outings on Sunday and Monday, dodging the showers in search of autumn colour and struck lucky on the second day with a couple of hours of glorious sunshine and beautiful foliage at Dunham Massey. Isn’t this acer just stunning!

But I suppose I’d better get on with my six, although it’s a bit of a struggle knowing what to share with you this week.

  1. Hydrangea

‘Little Lime’ in its autumn colours. In winter, the flowers will turn brown, but they still look interesting especially with a touch of frost.

2. Gaura

After a very slow start, Gaura ‘Rosyjane’ got going in autumn and is still adding a touch of pinkness. Probably not for much longer, but anything is welcome in November.

3. Crab apples

Yes, these are the ones that I didn’t do anything with. The wood pigeons have had their fill, but there is still quite a lot of fruit.

4. Hellebore

A new one that I picked up at the RHSBridgewater garden centre. Its leaves are very attractive.

5. Physocarpus

Talking of leaves, ‘Lady in Red’ is about to lose hers.

6. Clematis

Last but not least is Clematis ‘Black Prince’ still trying to put on a late show.

And on that happy note, I’ll wish you a good weekend. Happy gardening!
