My Little Garden 12th Dec 2020
The stresses of this week have really made me feel like I need a break. Obviously not a holiday under the current circumstances, but just a few days to relax and regroup: a little ‘me time’. My garden is pretty well sorted out for now, and my last bit of work for the year is almost done, so maybe it will happen soon. I’m thinking about the purchase of a new camera so a little bit of happy research is definitely something to look forward to. I just hope Mr M doesn’t read this!
This week I’m still ‘cheating’ with my Six on Saturday but as my first spare moment to look through photos from May 2020 was 8pm on Friday evening, this may be a little haphazard, but here goes.
1.There was a lot going on in May. The routine of lockdown had been established and I had a couple of planting jobs to keep me busy. This necessitated a visit to Bluebell Cottage Gardens to collect plants and what a treat it was to go back, even if the garden was closed at this stage. I added a couple of items to the order for me (not charged to the client I hasten to add) and this was one of the them. A rather lovely polemonium in a delicate shade of blue with a delicious fragrance.
2. A weigela that I’d decided to move the previous autumn decided to flower and for the rest of the summer provided support for a rampant Geranium ‘Ann Folkhard’
And this is Ann’s first flower before the rampage started. Or is it the Geranium ‘Anne Thomson’ that I also bought at Bluebell. I’m not entirely sure as they are very similar in colour.
3. The clematis had started to flower. This is Mrs T climbing up the fence with a little help from a berberis on the way.
4. The first of the roses to bloom was this one which is my favourite in the garden.
5. I love peonies but only have room for one in my little garden. Bowl of Beauty is a real stunner and you might just be able to just make out the phlox in front of it which will take over for the rest of the summer.
6. The alliums were amazing as always. This is Allium Christophii and the one on the header shot is Allium Purple Sensation. This year I have added Allium ‘Purple Rain’ and Allium basalticum ‘Silver Springs’. I planted 3 bulbs of the latter in a deep pot at the end of October and one of them has just shot up so I expect it will all go horribly wrong.
And that’s my review of May 2020 in my little garden. There may be a June next week and then it’s back to whatever the garden has to offer.
