My Little Garden 12th Feb 2022
This has been the week when I’ve really started to notice an acceleration in garden activity. Ok, that acceleration might be frustratingly slow, but new little blooms have started to appear here, there and everywhere, and I can smell spring on the distant horizon. Perhaps I’m deluding myself but hey, let’s be optimistic.
On Thursday, after all current decorating duties were concluded, it felt like time for a day off so I took my camera for a walk at Dunham Massey. The snowdrops and iris looked amazing but I got caught in a hail shower and it was seriously cold.
I braved the conditions for long enough for a wander round the winter garden and a few shots at home for Six on Saturday. The pace at which I tend to wander with a camera is not sufficient to keep warm!
- Iris
First is the bud that didn’t turn into a flower in time for last Saturday. Iris ‘Sea Breeze’ is a little more interesting than ‘Katharine Hodgkin’.
This is Katharine for comparison.
2. Hellebores
I propped Helleborus x hybridus Harvington ‘yellow speckled’ up for a photo. It’s flowering quite early compared to previous years and it’s one of my favourites.
Penny’s Pink is currently sulking and the only flower to fully open is in an impossible place to take a photo. The other buds are quite promising though!
3. Crocus
This is Crocus sieberi ‘Firefly’. A bit of sun would be very welcome so I could show you the inside of the flower.
4. More crocus
So nice to see the first of the purple ones appear. They took me by surprise.
5. Even more crocus
All the yellow ones ate still going strong.
6. Snowdrops and cyclamen
This is a striking combination lurking at the bottom of the garden. The cyclamen I planted last year are still just leaves, so I’m hoping this year’s acquisitions do better.
