My Little Garden 13th July 2024

For this week’s Six on Saturday, I ventured into my front garden. It needed weeding for one thing, so I thought I might as well take some photos at the same time. It’s fair to say that compared to the back garden, it’s a bit neglected, so all the plants have to be tough. The colours are also a bit different with bright red and orange alongside the blue and yellow.

There are a few evergreen shrubs in the front garden, including Skimmia ‘Kew Green’, Choisya ‘Sundance’ and Sarcococca ‘Winter Gem’, alongside Cornus ‘Midwinter Fire’ for winter interest, but today I’m mostly concentrating on the perennials.

  1. Orange Flowers

Helenium ‘Moorheim Beauty’ has been better in previous years, so I think I need to give it a bit of tlc.

2. Blue Flowers

I’m not sure of the variety of this eryngium, but it does brilliantly in the dry soil.

3. Red Flowers

Monarda ‘Cambridge Scarlet’ is a brilliant splash of bright red.

4. Yellow Leaves

A great contrast to the bright colours of the perennials. This berberis doesn’t like drought conditions, so I have to remember to water it occasionally.

5. Yellow flowers

Knifofia ‘Lemon Popsicle’ and good old Alchemilla mollis against the background of blue eryngium.

6. Red and white flowers

Salvia ‘Hotlips’ is a relatively new addition to fill a gap created by a dead shrub that I had to remove.

Next week, I will be back on the familiar territory of the back garden. In the meantime, have a great weekend, and thanks for reading.
