My Little Garden 13th May 2023

It was always going to be a busy week, but add in two trips to the hospital with the husband, shopping for elderly relative in law, planting up a client’s garden in the rain, and I’ve had quite enough. Just as well that the forecast for today is rather pleasant because I’m more than ready for a lazy day in the garden.

There’s been a bit of floppage amongst the tulips after the heavy rain, but many other plants are grateful for the watering and are shooting up. On the flip side, so are the weeds, and I need to do something about them. Hopefully I’ll get a chance this weekend. So what shall I choose for my six? I’ll start with…

  1. Lilac

One of the most pleasing things in the garden at the moment is this Korean Lilac - Syringa meyeri ‘Paliban’. I can’t remember whether this is year two or three for the little tree, but it’s looking good.

2. Purple Rain

The alliums are bursting forth, including this ‘Purple Rain’.

3. Aquilegia

It’s a white one, but it’s a little early for Kristall so it must be one of the random ones.

4. Tulip ‘Black Hero’

Most of these flopped in the rain, but isn’t it a sumptuous blackcurranty colour.

5. Weigela

Weigela florida ‘Minor Black’ has dark green/purple leaves, which contrast well with the pink flowers.

6. Phlox ‘Clouds of Perfume’

Always a delight in May.

That’s it for another week. I’m taking a friend plant shopping later, which is always a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.

Have a wonderful weekend.
