My Little Garden 14th Aug 2021
It’s been a funny old week. A couple of projects have been finished off, a poorly performing clematis has been removed from the garden, and I’ve taken a few cuttings. Doesn’t sound like much but add to that a Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning of granddaughter minding and I feel like I need a couple of days off. Looking after children is so much more tiring than gardening, especially with a very bossy two year old but at least they were asleep in time for me to watch Gardeners World last night.
This week’s blog was mostly written on Wednesday as I knew I wouldn’t have time after that until Saturday afternoon, so who knows what could have happened in the interim. Assuming nothing dramatic has occurred however, here are my Six on Saturday.
- Clematis
My best performing clematis this year has been the one in the header photo, which is called Clematis ‘Remembrance’. I’m really happy that it remembered to flower, because I’ve been a bit underwhelmed by a couple of the others. Arabella is the one that has been dug up and the photo below is the first flower on ‘Ernest Markham’ which has decided that it would be a good idea to mostly grace next door with it’s presence. It needs to do better!
2. Frilly Knickers
Doesn’t this Anemone have a brilliant name? Now ‘frilly’ doesn’t really describe my fashion style, but I love this new variety.
3. Another Anemone
This one is called Pamina, and whilst it’s never been my favourite, it does have the advantage of being virtually indestructible.
4. Cosmos
I’ve been religiously deadheading the cosmos and they’re adding late summer colour to the back of the border as planned.
5. Enough of the pink
This week’s choices have been far too pink, so here’s Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’. Its very yellow but I love it!
6. A tale of two dahlias
One in pristine condition….
and one that has been ravaged by the slimy army.
And on that sad note, I come to end of this week’s choices. If I survive the overnight babysitting for younger son and daughter in law’s wedding anniversary I’ll catch up with everyone else’s sixes this afternoon.
