My Little Garden 14th Jan 2023

I week ago I was wondering what on earth I was going to photograph that would be half-way interesting enough to share for Six on Saturday. In retrospect, last week was easy, and after another week of non stop rain I’m almost stumped (no tree related pun intended). If this carries on I shall have to resort to six pictures of seed packets next week.

In terms of indoor activities, I’ve just finished writing about my tulip ‘addiction’ for a magazine feature and it’s been great to look through archive photos of my spring garden over the last few years. It gives me encouragement that there is an end in sight to this winter dreariness, and with that in mind, I ventured forth with camera in hand on the least rainy day of the week, to see what I could find.

  1. Shoots

There are lots of shoots popping up, which gives me lots of pleasure in a ‘looking forward to Christmas' sort of way. Let’s hope the flowers themselves aren’t a bit of an anti-climax like the festive season often is.

The shoots below belong to Iris reticulata ‘Blue Planet’ which is a new one for my garden this year. They’re coming on nicely, but I’m not sure a flower will appear in time for next week.

2. The first crocus

Ok, it isn’t quite open yet, but it is definitely yellow. And yes I am clutching at straws!

3. Leaf

The leaf of Heuchera ‘Art Nouveau’ to be precise. It hangs on its leaves pretty well over winter unlike some of my other heucheras this year.

4. Buds

I’m really pleased to see buds on the Sorbus vilmorinii tree I planted last year. It had a tough time of it in the drought but coped very well, and I’m really looking forward to flowers, leaves and hopefully berries in 2023.

5. More buds

These are on my Camellia ‘Brushfields Yellow’ which has lovely creamy yellow coloured flowers.

6. Indoors

No I haved got any early varieties of narcissi. These are just in a jug on my kitchen window sill.

For more exciting sixes, I can guarantee you’ll find them on Jim’s blog along with links to many others.

There’s also the #SixonSaturday hashtag on twitter for lots of great photos from around world.

Have a great weekend.
