My Little Garden 14th October
After my little rant about electric car issues last week, I feel duty bound to concentrate purely on garden related matters this week.
I was very happy when both of my bulb orders finally arrived yesterday, after a polite nudge on WhatsApp to one of the suppliers. Two items are ‘to follow’ which is what was probably holding things up. Will they materialise? I hope so, because l particularly wanted the tulips.
The temperatures dropped on Thursday, which means that I can hopefully plant a few tulips in the next couple of weeks as well as the other bulbs, so all is well. I’m going to keep a note of the total number of bulbs I plant this year because it might be a record. In fact I may well need a holiday when I’ve finished.
In my little garden, I’ve been doing a bit of tidying as well as preparing some pots ready for bulbs. The late perennials are still going strong, and there have been a few surprises popping up.
- Cosmos
On the whole, my cosmos have been a bit of a failure this year, so I was quite surprised to see two pink varieties starting to flower this week. Better late than never I suppose.
2. Asters
I promise I won’t mention these again until next summer, but they have been fabulous.
3. Hydrangea
Displaying its autumn colours.
4. Cotinus
This is Golden Lady, a recent purchase and still living in its pot. I’ve wanted one for a while and it was a bargain.
5. Carex ‘Prairie Fire’
Another new purchase, which picks up the colour of the water bowl rather well. I’m going to plant Narcissus ‘Geranium’ around the bowl and the bulbs will be going in this weekend.
6. Verbena
There have been so many Red Admirals again this week, at least before the temperatures dropped.
The main man for Six on Saturday blogs is Jim over at https://gardenruminations.co.uk/ and I’m hoping to find lots of autumnal photos on twitter/ X
Have a great weekend.
