My Little Garden 16th July 2022
Have you seen the weather forecast!!! A serious heatwave is heading our way in the next few days and some of our gardens may well be struggling to cope without some serious watering activities. It’s especially not ideal for the build up to RHS Tatton, which is my local flower show, and right in the middle of the red weather warning zone. Regardless of the temperatures though, I’m really excited to be heading there very early on Wednesday morning to see what the 2022 show has to offer.
This last week has been a mixed bag of work and garden activities, but going back to last Saturday, I visited Mount Pleasant Gardens and Sculpture Trail in Kelsall, Cheshire for the first time. It was really stunning and a garden I will return to at different times of year. And as it was a joint birthday outing with a friend (very belated in my case), we decided that we would buy each other a plant, which brings me very nicely to my first choice for this week.
- Fuchsia
This fuchsia was unnamed, but I was really taken by the huge blooms. The ‘plants for sale’ section is right next to the tea room so the temptations are hard to resist.
2. Green Twister
The first of my echinacea has started to flower. More pink will show as the it matures, and I’m happy that it’s survived to it’s second summer.
3. Anthemis
Taken in very bright light so I’ve had to tone it down a bit. Nice to have a bit of yellow in the garden and the bees seem to like it.
4. Stachys
This is Stachys hummelo and the bees love this too. It pops up from behind a geranium which always needs to be cut down at the start of July so it is a perfect successor.
5. Eryngium
I have this in the front garden and because it’s doing so well, I thought I’d add one to the front of a border in the back garden. The variety is ‘Blue Hobbit’ and as the name suggests, it’s quite demure in stature.
6. Nigella
Another cool blue to finish with. One of the self seeded Nigella that just pops up here and there to fill a gap.
Enjoy your weekends and when you need a break from the garden, check out the #SixonSaturday hashtag on Twitter for more blogs and garden photos. As always, thanks to The Propagator for starting all this nonsense. https://thepropagatorblog.wordpress.com/
Hope to see you at RHS tatton!
