My Little Garden 16th Mar 2024

I’m not one to complain (much), but what a miserable week it’s been. I thought we’d turned a corner on our dull, wet winter, but apart from a couple of bright hours on Monday, it’s been back to the ‘new normal’. Just as well then, that I took a few photographs on Monday, or my choices for this week would have painted a bleak picture. As it is, let’s pretend that we’re poised on the cusp of better days.

  1. Bleeding Heart

Or Lamprocapnos spectablis if you prefer. Pretty little pink hearts that always reliably flower in March (and sometimes February or even January one year).

2. Companions

Prunus Kojo-no-mai and Narcissus ‘Snowbaby’ were supposed to flower together. The prunus in my front garden has been flowering for a couple of weeks now, but this one is very slow, and if it doesn’t get a move on, Snow Baby will have given up.

3. Hellebore

Still flowering away in its cracked pot, this one will soon be moved to a new spot in the garden.

4. Tulips

There have been puddles of rain in these, and the flowers seem to be missing a stem at the moment. I can see they are a ‘Parrot’ variety, but the rain has washed away the label. I need to refer to my trusty spreadsheet.

5. Another butterfly

The second butterfly visitor of the year is a Comma with a liking for crocus. A pleasing contrast of colours I think.

6. Daffodils

As well as Snow Baby, Narcissus Tête-à-tête is adding lots of colour to the garden. They will soon be joined by Scilla luciliae, adding a splash of blue.

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading.
