My Little Garden 17th Feb 2024

It’s been half-term this week, which has involved three days of grandchild minding. That might not sound a lot, but trust me that by the end of each day, I just needed to collapse with a large glass of wine and an early night.

On the days that I didn’t have the girls, I worked my way through a long ‘to do’ list, and in my spare time, planted up some bare root perennials that arrived from Farmer Gracy. Last year, when I ordered the same Geranium plenum, they turned out to be something else, so I’m really hoping the same won’t happen with the replacements.

On Thursday, the two eldest girls helped me out by taking some photos for this week’s Six on Saturday, and I think they did rather well.

  1. Bulbs

I asked them to take a picture of this snowdrop because it’s my favourite. Here’s ‘Wendy’s Gold’

2. Buds

The camellia is poised.

3. Hellebore

A new purchase last weekend. Hellebore Ice N Roses ‘Picotee’.

4. New growth

Last year, this Lamprocapnos surprised me with a flower in the cold of January and also went on to produce an abundance of blooms in spring. I have high hopes for 2024.

5. Bee

I wasn’t intending to share another hellebore, but we spotted a bee, or possibly a hoverfly, sheltering under this flower.

6. Crocus

And finally, the purple crocus are starting to flower

It suddenly seems like everything is in bud, helped in part by a very mild February. Who knows what will be in flower in the next seven days.

Have a great weekend.
