My Little Garden 19th June 2021
Is the weather forecast ever right??! We’ve been promised (or threatened with) rain for days now and barely a drop has landed in my garden. It would be nice to have a break from watering but as I have a few days off next week, overnight would definitely be preferable.
Despite the lack of rain, or perhaps because of my diligent watering, the garden is flourishing and everything is so much taller than last year. It’s been very hard to pick just six ‘things’ for Six on Saturday’ and I can almost sense the disappointment of the plants I’m leaving out. As they’re trying so hard to please, they will get a turn next week.
- Dahlia
The big excitement of the week is the arrival of my very first dahlia flower. This is the first year I’ve grown them (apart from picking a late summer supermarket bargain) and this beauty is from a tuber that I planted in February. Hopefully the other two dahlias will oblige in the next few weeks.
2. Rose
This pale beauty is Rosa ‘New Dawn' which is at the back of a border and currently competing with rampant geraniums and astrantia which are loving the conditions this year.

This is one of the astrantia in question.
4. Geranium
And this is Geranium ‘Red Admiral’ which is most definitely not red.
5. Little plant with a big leaf
I ordered three plants from Plantagogo the other week and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a heucherella with a leaf this big. I suspect it might outgrow it’s pot very quickly but isn’t it gorgeous!
6. Poppy
The poppies are almost over for now, but they have been fabulous. This is the one I can’t remember the name of but even as it fades the velvet and ruffles are just so glamorous.
So that’s my selection for this week. I’m looking forward to a few days of rest and relaxation next week with an exciting garden visit or two or in prospect.
