My Little Garden 1st July 2023
For most of the last week, I have been without a car of my own and have had to negotiate with the husband for the use of his - not easy when he’s starting to play golf again after his hip replacement op. My little all electric VW ID3 languished in the garage from 8 am last Friday until Tuesday lunchtime, having a service and software update. They didn’t tell me how long it might take (the software update bit) when I booked it in, and apparently, it was touch and go at one stage. The mechanic talked of a crash, firewalls, and multiple reboots. Anyway, my vehicle, which seems to be more computer than actual car, is back home with ‘different’ but as inefficient software as before. As long it gets me A to B.
As I’ve mostly been confined to base for a few days, the garden has been getting some attention, but I realise that there is much work to be done. Some things are looking good and grateful for the rain, but I can’t say I’m totally happy (understatement). Anyway, let’s go with the things I’m pleased with for Six on Saturday.
- Ladybird
Finally, I’m starting to see these creatures again, and hopefully they’ll enjoy the feast of aphids that my garden can provide.
2. Agastache
I need to look up which one this is. It was left over from a planting job a couple of years ago and survived last winter well. Only two flowers but hopefully it will do better next year.
3. Phlox
This has been in the garden for several years and pops up in front of the peony. It seems to work quite well with Geranium ‘Red Admiral’.
4. Anthemis
If only to prove that I do have yellow in my summer garden.
5. Nepeta
Still going strong, thanks to its semi shaded position. I think the variety is Nepeta x faassenii ‘Kit Kat’ and it’s a lovely shade of blue.
6. Stachys macrantha ‘Rosea’
This is a lovely perennial. I wish the flowers lasted longer, but at least it looks neat and tidy when they’re done.
Happy new month everyone.
