My Little Garden 20th July 2024

Summer arrived in the northwest of England this week, just in time for the RHS flower show at Tatton Park. I’ve been very lucky the past three years to arrive early on Press Day, so I get the opportunity to see the gardens and chat to some of the designers before the majority of visitors arrive. It was such a treat to see everything the 25th anniversary show had to offer.

I always come away from a show with ideas for my own garden, but this year, my shopping was restricted to a couple of rusty metal plant stakes. Very restrained! More on them later, and here are my six things in the garden this week.

  1. Agapanthus

I lost an agapanthus in the cold winter of 2023, and this was the replacement last year. It only has three flowers, but I have high hopes for 2025.

2. Stachys

This is Stachys ‘Hummelo’. The bees love it and the slugs leave it alone. What’s not to like.

3. Clematis

Remembrance is usually having a rest at this stage of summer, so I’m really pleased to see it still flowering away.

4. Francoa

Another favourite with the bees. And me

5. Geranium

Mrs Kendall Clark having another go at flowering.

6. Rusty metal from RHS Tatton

I was intending to show you a picture of Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’, but that can wait until next week. These are my flower show purchases.

Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend.
