My Little Garden 22nd April 2022

Did I promise you tulips for this Saturday? If they aren’t your thing, then maybe this isn’t the blog for you, but I do have one or two other plants to share, so bear with me if you can.

It’s been a bit of a strange week, so I’m very glad there’s been a few relatively nice days that have allowed me to relax and potter in the garden. The husband had a hip replacement oper ation on Wednesday, so I’ve been toing and froing to the hospital and wondering whether he would make it home on Friday or Saturday. In the end, he got 10 out of 10 for good behaviour (that’s a first), and I collected him yesterday afternoon.

I’m sure he’s going to be difficult to live with during his recovery, as he’ll be missing his chums on the golf course, so I’ll be making a big effort to be nice to him. He’s slightly worried that I might prove to have lots in common with the infamous Nurse Ratched (you probably have to be over 60 to understand that reference), so if he misbehaves or tries to escape I’ll be getting tough with him.

Anyway, back to the joys of the spring garden and I’ll start with a flower beginning with T for the first of my six choices.

  1. Tulip ‘Pretty Princess’

This one is short of stature and is best grown in a pot. I ran out of pots last autumn, so I planted them in a less than ideal spot in a border. It’s very pink but with interesting markings.

Inside view.

2. Tulip ‘City of Vancouver’

A lovely single creamy white tulip.

3. Forget-me-not

See, it’s not all about tulips. These dainty little blue flowers are a spring essential for my garden, and they work very well with all the bulbs and early perennials.

4. Narcissi ’Pipit’

Mellowing beautifully to a delicate lemony yellow.

5. Crab Apple blossom

Malus x zumi ‘Golden Hornet’. A tree that never grows much but is always covered in blossom and then hundreds of little golden crab apples.

6. Tulip ‘Gavota’

Of course, I have to finish with a tulip, and probably my favourite this year. For any who saw my mystery tulip post on Thursday, now you know what it was.

More tulips next week, but for now I’m off to deal with the not very patient patient. For more SixonSaturday posts and stories, visit the Blog of Jim (link below) and look out for the #SixonSaturday hashtag on Twitter.
