My Little Garden 22nd July 2023
After a very busy week at RHS Tatton and a city centre photoshoot, this is going to be a very short and sweet Six on Saturday. Before I dive into the delights (or otherwise) of my little garden, a shout out for my local RHS show, which I really enjoyed this year. Over the past few years, the big show gardens have reduced in number dramatically, but they have been replaced by such themes as Greener Front Gardens in 2022 and Terrace Gardens and Long Borders in 2023. All relevant to those of us who have modest sized gardens, and also anyone looking for planting ideas to replicate at home. And with his Ginnel Garden called Cloudy Alley, Jason Williams, aka The Cloud Gardener, is championing community gardens for those with even less outdoor space. All excellent stuff, and as I was ‘working’ I spent much more time than usual wandering around the school exhibits, which were fabulous, as were the Young Designer Gardens. Oh, and the Floral Marquee of course…
Did I say this was going to be short and sweet. I’ll stop now and show you my garden photos.
- Echinacea
Green Twister (header shot) is flowering but interestingly is nowhere near as popular with the bees and other pollinators as the pink varieties. There’s always a crowd on this unknown variety.
2. Cornflowers
I sowed the seeds quite late and they’ve been very slow to get going. A bit of deadheading is required this weekend.
3. Zinnia
My seeds didn’t germinate well and the remaining seedlings were so weedy that I succumbed to temptation and bought a tray of six healthy plants.
4. A new heuchera
A little purchase from my favourite heuchera growers at the flower show. This one is called Gojiberry.

5. Liatris and Verbena
The white liatris is new, but Verbena officinalis ‘Bampton’ (purply blobby plant) isn’t. I’m very glad it survived the winter.
6. Penstemon
Another Six on Saturday outing for this one, just because I like it.
And that’s it folks. I’m hoping the weather is kind for a trip to an open garden and possibly Bluebell Cottage Gardens for some Iris ‘Silver Edge’ to go around my new water feature.
Have a great weekend.
