My Little Garden 22nd June 2024
Summer has arrived at long last and I’m writing this on Friday afternoon in the garden. In theory, I’m on a tea break, but the reality is that I want to stay outside and savour the warmth while it lasts.
I’d like to say that it is quiet and peaceful with only the sound of bees buzzing and birds singing, but unfortunately, there’s building work going on in the vicinity, and the noise is incessant. Oh well, can’t have everything I suppose.
Here are my six choices for this Saturday.
- Geranium ‘Cloud Nine’
I have a pale blue haze in the garden at the moment from ‘Cloud Nine’ and ‘Splish Splash’. Lovely.
2. Geranium ‘Derrick Cook’
This one resides in the front garden.
3. Lavender ‘Hidcote’
In one of the pots around my water bowl. These get moved around so that I’ve always got something in flower.
4. Campanula lactiflora ‘Pritchard’s Variety’
Covered in buds and also blackfly, which the ladybirds seem to be appreciating.
5. The rose and the foxglove.
I went to visit a gorgeous garden last week at Goldstone Hall Hotel, which was listed in last Saturday’s Telegraph as being one of the best hotels with a garden. It is situated in North Shropshire, where there are at least three other glorious gardens to visit. Why am I telling you this? Because, in their beautiful herbaceous border, they had repeating Rosa ‘Ballerina’. Here it is.
And here’s my own Rosa ‘Ballerina’ with a foxglove in tow.
6. Salvia
It has mostly been a disastrous year for salvias thanks to the slugs. But as yet, they haven’t found their way into my large container on wheels, and Salvia ‘Amethyst’ that I make no apology for including again, is thriving.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.
