My Little Garden 25th Feb 2023

This time last week, I thought it might be difficult to find a different set of six to share with you. Normally, in February, I have flowers on the kitchen windowsill to provide a bit of colour, but that’s still out of commission due to the kitchen refit, so it had to be garden plants or nothing. Would it just be another collection of iris, crocus and hellebores, or would I find something else….

Well, it turned out to be a bit of both, but I’ll start with something different.

  1. The first blossom

This was a bit of a surprise, but the first flowers on Prunus Kojo-no-mai appeared in the week. Pure white and very lovely. As we’re almost in March I’m taking this as a sign of spring.

2. Iris and robin

I was taking a photo of the latest iris to flower and got photobombed by one of the resident robins. The Iris is supposed to be ‘Blue Planet’ but I’m not convinced.

3. Pulmonaria

It’s great to see this starting to flower at the end of February. The leaves look tatty at times, but it’s one of the first perennials to produce spring flowers.

4. Clematis buds

Miss Bateman is coming on nicely.

5. Scilla

The first of the Scilla siberica , such a beautiful blue.

6. Hellebores

I have two yellow hellebores, both of which are tricky to take photos of at the moment, but I did my best lying on the grass to get a pic for Six on Saturday.

And that’s it for the last weekend of February. Spring is almost here, and the garden is getting more colourful every day. Lots more ‘almost spring’ blogs and photo collections can be found on Twitter or via The Six on Saturday blog of Jim our leader https://gardenruminations.co.uk/

Have a great weekend.
