My Little Garden 26th June 2021
This week I’ve been on a mini break with the husband. The main part of the trip was a three night stay in Norfolk which was delightful. Wildflowers, windmills and windswept beaches were some of the highlights, and we will return for a longer stay when we can.
On Wednesday, we detoured south, taking in Anglesey Abbey en route, for an overnight stay in a rather disappointing hotel in Amersham. I remember the location well from the days when I had a ‘proper job’, but sadly the accommodation and restaurant failed to live up to expectations.
Fortunately, things picked up the following day when we popped in to see my twitter friend Sarah Pajwani and her wonderful garden near Maidenhead. St Timothee is open for NGS on Sunday 4th July and please visit if you can, because it’s simply beautiful. I’ve seen some stunning photos of the garden, but none of them really do it justice.
The journey back up north also gave us the opportunity to visit Waterperry, which has long been on my ‘must visit' list. I’m so glad that we did because it’s such a gem. Even my non gardener husband thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Back at home, after a slight worry that younger son might have forgotten to water the garden, all was well after our absence, so fortunately I have something to share for Six on Saturday.
- Geraniums
I’m very pleased to report that these are still looking good and aforementioned younger son has clearly done a good job with watering duties.
‘Splish Splash’ is doing really well this year and much taller than in 2020.
The flowers are white but the purple markings are highly variable, just like random splashes from a paint brush.
2. Astrantia
Last week I featured the white variety but it now its the turn of Astrantia ‘Star of Fire’. (At least I think it’s that one).
It’s such a beautiful red!
3. Salvia
Back to the cool blues, and Salvia Ostfriesland has come on nicely.
4. Butterfly
Just before I went on my little trip I caught this Meadow Brown on the Erysimum. Not a common sight in my garden so it was good to have it making a pit stop.
5. Clematis
The next wave of clematis has arrived and this is one of my favourites. It’s a little neglected because it’s hidden away behind a prickly rose, but the flowers always manage to break through.
6. Surprise
There’s a gaura in this pot somewhere but a surprise campanula seems to have taken up residence. It’s rather nice so I shall attempt some delicate surgery to relocate it when the flowers are over.
And as we reach the end of June that’s it for another week. A day of gardening beckons for me and I hope you lovely readers have an equally pleasant day in prospect.
