My Little Garden 26th November 2022
It’s been one of those really exciting weeks of rain, tax returns, rain, Christmas shopping, more rain, but finally a little bit of sunshine on Friday that made the world of difference.
My tulips bulbs have been planted, the lawn has had its final mow of the year (which my cordless mower grumbled about because of the wet) and I’m feeling on top of the garden tasks for now.
I also checked the garden for early signs of green shoots, and a couple of these are included in my six for this week starting with….
- Snowdrops
No, they’re not early, it’s a variety that always flowers for Christmas. I was hoping they’d clump up a bit more this year, but I guess I’m just going to have to be patient.
2. Muddy pot with narcissi
These are Narcissus bulbocidium ‘White Petticoat’ which according to Sarah Raven will look like Swan Lake Ballerinas. I’ll let you know in March.
3. Bargain
I popped into the garden centre for some more grit to mix into compost and top the bulb pots. These hyacinth had 75% off so how could I refuse.
4. Red leaves
I featured the blue flowers of Ceratostigma plumbaginoides back in mid October. The flowers are over now, but the leaves are a lovely shade of red.
5. Ornamental quince
I spotted these lurking at the back of the border I was clearing to find the snowdrops. And being a bit short of decent material for this week, I thought I’d artfully arrange them on the wall.
6. The first of the hellebores
Hellebore x ericsmithii is always the first to produce a flower or two.
And in a flash we’re at the end of November. Where does the time go. Thank you for reading and please check out the link below which takes you to our new (ish) Six on Saturday leader.
