My Little Garden 26th Oct 2024
It’s turned out to be a rather nice October. Lots of sunny days, pleasantly mild, and quite a few flowers pretending that summer is still here.
1Most of my bulbs, with the exception of the tulips, have been planted, and although I said I was winding down to retirement, I’ve had my arm twisted to ‘help out’ with autumn tasks elsewhere. I don’t think my recently acquired dodgy knee is particularly happy about it, but it will have a few months to recover. When all bulbs have been planted this year, I’m going to do a little count up to see how many. It will add up to quite a few!
This week’s Six on Saturday is mostly about the flowers that are still blooming, but I also need to include the best foliage of the week.
- Sorbus vilmorinii
In year two of residence in my garden, there still aren’t many berries on this tree, but leaves are a stunning orange colour.
2. Geranium Rozanne
The buzzy visitors are still enjoying the nectar.
3. Begonia
Begonia ‘Friedeggii’ is also popular this week.
4. Verbena bonariensis
It seems like the last of the butterflies have departed, but the verbena is still standing tall.
5. Anemone ‘Elfin Swan’
Looking a bit tatty now, but lasting well.
6. Fuchsia ‘Delta’s Sarah’
Fully recovered in time for a late flourish, it will be move to a sheltered spot for winter soon.
I’m off to help with some bulb planting this morning. After that, only four jobs to go (not that I’m counting). Have a great weekend and thanks for reading.
