My Little Garden 27th July
And just like that, here we are at the end of July. The granddaughters have finished school, and for the eldest, it was her last day of primary education. Sometimes, I feel like I’m getting old, and I suppose I am, but I prefer to be in denial for as long as possible.
It’s a quick 'Six on Saturday’ from me this week, and then I’m taking a break until September. Not for any special reason, but I just want to give up social media for a while.
It was a difficult choice picking things for this week. Normally I’d be enjoying the echinaceas at this point, but thanks to the slugs and snails they’re missing, presumed eaten. Anyway, here we go.
- Allium ‘Millennium’
I like these summer flowering alliums. This is a compact variety that lives at the front of a border and is much loved by insects.
A woodpigeon trod on this one, but the bee didn’t mind that it was lying on the grass.
2. Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’
This is at its best right now. Later in the summer and into autumn, the colour of the flowers change to pink, which I don’t like as much.
3. Gladiolus and Thalictrum
Two for the price of one here and I’m not sure who is propping up who.
4. Clematis ‘Black Prince’
Recovering well after a shaky start to the season when the new growth was eaten.
5. Veronicastrum
The flowers look white in this photo, but they’re actually pale pink, so I think the variety might be ‘Pink Glow’. Not as tall as ‘Fascination’ but they flower a little later, which works perfectly.
6. Cosmos
A bit of a fuzzy photo of one that I bought at a charity sale, and it’s rather pretty.
And on that happy note, have a great weekend. I’ll be skipping a month and I’ll see you in September.
