My Little Garden 27th Nov 2021
My idea of a perfect November day is a frosty start and bright winter sunshine, so I’m very pleased to report that there have been two such days this week. The frost didn’t linger long, so I had to make the most of the short photo opportunities for Six on Saturday.
I’m also very pleased to report that there has been major activity on the tulip planting front. The only technical hitch to the completion of the task, was a late online order for a few more ‘emergency’ tulips. Half price bulbs and free postage and packing was an offer I couldn’t refuse, so there will be a modest three extra pots next spring.
You might be suspecting by now that my six choices this week are either frost or tulip related. Well I’m going to save the latter for a tulip focused blog next week, so frosty sparkles it is.
- Frosted roses
First up are the roses. All a bit of a late surprise after I thought they’d finished for the year. I have the previously mild weather to thank for this little bonus.
Rosa ‘Handel’ has almost pure white blooms when they appear this late in the year. A true winter white.
I don’t think these Rosa ‘Ballerina’ buds will open now, but it’s been a good effort from a bare root rose only planted last spring.
2. Frosted lavender
I always like to leave the lavender spikes until spring because they can look so pretty in winter.
3. Frosted plant stakes
More decorative than useful, they suit a touch of white.
4. Frosted jasmine
Another plant that has been deluded about the season.
5. Frosted hydrangea
Just colour has gone from this Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’ but the decaying flowers are still rather beautiful.
6. Frosted Robin
My little feathered friend is always up for a photoshoot, subject to an edible reward of course.
The wind has been howling all night and a very cold day is in prospect. Perfect for catching up with all the #SixonSaturday blogs and photos. Hope the storm isn’t causing too many problems where you are and have a good weekend.
