My Little Garden 28th Oct 2023
2023 will go down in history (well, my history) as the year I became a fan of begonias. Just look at the colour on this one as we head into the last few days of October. I bought three plants for £12 back in June, and they’re still going strong, despite being pretty much neglected in their pots by the porch door. Excellent value for money and very low maintenance.
How are we all doing with our bulb planting? I finished work in other people’s gardens on Wednesday afternoon after taking advantage of two nice dry days this week. So now, it’s on to my own garden. The early bulbs in pots are done, but I still have tulip mountains in the garage. Hopefully they’ll reduce over the next couple of weeks.
For Six on Saturday it’s a bit of a mixed bag this week, but I’ll start with the bargain.
- Begonia
This is what a thoroughly neglected begonia looks like after four and a half months.
2. Clematis
‘Black Prince’ is a new acquisition this year, and I wasn’t really expecting any flowers. But here we are at the end of October. When I saw the first bud, I was hopeful.
And here we are.
3. Quince
The squirrel has been spotted with these in its mouth. I’ve never known that to happen before, so I found these while I still had some left.
4. Verbena
This is starting to look a little sorry for itself, but no doubt is busy self seeding. I had far too much this year, having been short the year before and having to resort to buying some.
5. Leaves
Red leaves and stems on my Sorbus vilmorinii, but a lack of berries thanks to a storm in spring.
6. The very last cosmos
I promise not to keep sharing my cosmos flowers, but they have been brilliant.
Wishing all my readers a very happy weekend.
