My Little Garden 29th Jan 2022

Another week has passed by in a haze of juggling childcare duties with the tea and biscuit requirements of various workmen installing a new fire and replastering the sitting room. The fire is of the ‘hole in the wall’ variety and the processs of removing the old fireplace and making the ‘hole’ created an unbelievable amount of dust. In itself that wouldn’t have been too bad but then the plasterer and his sidekick arrived. Plastering skills 8/10: mess making skills 10/10. Hopefully it will be worth it in the end, but I’m still clearing up …….

Escaping to the garden in an odd free moment has been great (and very necessary for my sanity)but I wish the iris and crocus would get a move on. The first yellow crocus opened this week so has earned it’s place on the number one slot for my Six on Saturday.

  1. Crocus

Ok, it’s not much to look at really but the first one is always exciting. In an amuse bouche sort of way.

2. Snowdrops

A bit of progress to report here, but they could do with a bit of warmth and sunshine. The cyclamen coum that I planted last year next to one clump is very slow to show signs of action too.

3. Buds

At least I have a good amount of buds on the camellia. (Slight cheat here because photo is from the previous week and didn’t get included).

4. Foliage

Heuchera ‘Art Nouveau’ looking quite pretty in it’s winter colours.

5. Winter scent

The tiny flowers of Sarcococca ‘Winter Gem’.

6. Tassels

These are pretty spectacular this year. I’m told the shrub is very prone to black spot but fortunately this one isn’t badly affected.

And in a flash January 2022 is over.

For more horticultural happenings from around the world take a peek at blog of the chap who started all this off, and of course the #SixonSaturday hashtag on twitter. https://thepropagatorblog.wordpress.com/

Have a great gardening weekend.
