My Little Garden 29th July 2023
My garden has gone a bit crazy after all the rain we’ve had over the last couple of weeks. In the front patch, Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’ is fighting with Monarda ‘Cambridge Scarlet’ for its share of space, with Geranium Rozanne and an eryngium, whose name I can’t remember, just about holding their own.
The colours in the front garden are very different from the rear, although some rudbeckia for late summer has crept in there too. Did I say late summer? A slip of the tongue because we are still in July if only by a couple of days.
There’s been no time for gardening at home this week, as I’ve had projects to finish and extra shifts of childcare to work around. I think I’m probably busier these days than when I used to have an office job and pretend to talk sense.
With just about enough spare time to take a few photos for Six on Saturday, I’ve concentrated on the back garden after starting with the ‘bonus’ shot from the front.
- Japanese anemone
Dreaming Swan has been flowering for a while, with the others on the brink but clearly waiting for August.
2. Veronicastrum
Very popular with the bees and other buzzy creatures.
3. Echinacea
In front of the veronicastrum, I have a clump of echinacea. It’s very dry in this part of the garden, so watering is required in dry spells to avoid the dreaded droop.
4. Echinops
I’ve had this for a while, and it doesn’t really have quite enough room to grow to its full potential, so I’m very pleased to see a few flowers.
5. Monarda
I believe this is ‘Croftway Pink’ and for the first time it seems to be free of mildew.
6. Gladiolus byzantinus
These are flowering late because I planted the corms late and I absolutely love the colour. Because I couldn’t decide where to plant them, they’re in a large container, but I’ll integrate them into the borders in autumn.
And that’s it for the last week of July. I’m going to see a new garden next week which I’m really excited about, so there may be photos.
Have a great weekend.
