My Little Garden 29th June 2024

It’s been a funny old week, with a few mini projects being finalised, a bit of gardening, and lots of visitors. All four granddaughters came after school on Thursday, which involved me picking up from one school and the husband from another. They range in age from eleven down to five and get on really well together, which makes my life very easy. Apart from the tidying up after they’ve been returned to their parents, that is……

Yesterday afternoon I realised that I hadn’t taken any garden photos for Six on Saturday, so fortunately the rain stopped in the afternoon. It’s a bit of a pink and purple theme this week so here we go.

  1. Veronicastrum

I think this is Veronicastrum virginicum ‘Fascination’, but I might be calling it the Gandalf plant in the future. The husband pointed to it earlier in the week and asked me the name of the plant that looked like Gandalf’s hat. He’s a big fan of Lord of the Rings, having read all three books as a child and seen the films more than once, but I can’t say the wizard connection is one that I would have noticed. What do you think?

2. Astilbe

A white one that has been very happy with all the rain this year.

3. Rozanne

Geranium Rozanne is such a reliable, long flowering variety that she deserves at least one mention this summer.

4. Campanula

A blue one, climbing up the wall of the old water feature, nowadays pretentiously referred to as ‘The Well’.

5. Oxalis and ferns

Looking rather pretty in a very shady corner. Brunnera ‘Sea Heart’ just behind the oxalis has been munched by the slugs.

6. Thalictrum ‘Elin’

It wasn’t easy trying to get a photo of this in the breeze, and this was the best I could manage. It’s a tall thalictrum but these flowers were on a conveniently shorter stem.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for reading and see you in July.
