My Little Garden 29th Oct 2022

October can be a very beautiful month. It’s not just the leaves that turn those wonderful shades of red and gold, it’s also the intensity of the colours in the last flourish of autumn flowers. I love late season bloomers, and every planting scheme I design has to have something of interest from early spring until well into November. With the right plants this is possible in even the smallest of gardens, although sometimes an emergency Erysimum ‘Bowles Mauve’ has to be brought into play.

One of the stars of my own little garden this week has been Symphyotrichum novi-belgii ‘Winston S. Churchill’, so I’ve used it as my header shot to draw you in to read the blog. And if you’re here now, please carry on as it’s only a quick read….

  1. Anthemis E. C. Buxton

Looking fresh as a daisy thanks to a Tatton tidy up. So named because I chopped it back in July at the time of the RHS Tatton Show, although it could also have been a Hampton Hack. It’s not just about the Chelsea Chop you know!

2. Geranium Rozanne

Doing better now that she did in the summer, thanks to all the autumn rain.

3. Fuchsia

Unknown variety which is also loving the autumn rain.

4. Cosmos

More of this variety will be grown next year; it’s a beauty.

5. Penstemon ‘Appleblossom’

This was a garden centre rescue back in early July. It had a couple of flowers and then went quiet, but here we are at the end of October and it’s decided to get going again.

6. Clematis ‘Remembrance’

One last bloom to remember the joys of summer.

Well thats my Six on Saturday (plus one). Funny how that happens isn’t it. Next week it will be all about the leaves, but until then have a great weekend and please take a look at the blog of the new #SixonSaturday leader.
