My Little Garden 2nd April 2022
April is possibly my favourite month of the year. The days are longer, the sun is warm, the showers gentle and refreshing…… well maybe not, but if only this romanticised version of spring was true, all would be perfect in my little garden. In reality, mornings are frosty, disasters are pending, and the slimy army of slugs and snails are gearing up for a major onslaught on the more delicate plants.
On the bright side, I didn’t catch covid from the husband who has once more been despatched to cause chaos on the golf courses of the Mersey Valley.
My new tree also arrived from https://www.ornamental-trees.co.uk/ . I had pondered long and hard about which variety to go for and finally settled on a Sorbus vilmorinii. I saw one last autumn on a trip to the Lake District and was really taken with the beautiful berries. This is what mine will look like in the due course of time. For now, it’s a little more modest and not very interesting to photograph.
But enough of the distant future and back to the garden as it is now in the first week of April.

2. Daff of the week
I was a bit undecided about which to choose, but I’m going to plump for Narcissus Actaea.
A beautifully scented variety and I have a clump right next to the new swing seat.
3. Primula
I really like the flowers, even if the leaves are not particularly pretty for the rest of the summer. Last year I had Orange-tip butterfly visitors in April so hopefully that will happen again.
4. Quince
This is the unknown variety that has popped up in my blog for the last two years. It has lots of buds which is very exciting.
5. Forget-me-not
They self seed everywhere but are absolutely worth it.
6. Tulip Ronaldo
The first of many tulips I hope!
