My Little Garden 2nd March 2024
I confess that I’m slightly disappointed that the start of the meteorological spring didn’t bring with it some better weather. I really don’t want to go on about it, but I’ve had more than enough of this rain.
I just about managed a first mow of the lawn, not something I would normally entertain in February, but it was getting ridiculously long thanks to the mild conditions, and the constant precipitation (see, I’m trying to avoid the ‘R’ word).
For my Six on Saturday, I braved the ‘damp’ conditions and ventured out to see which could find.
- Sundry pots
A few things have gone over now, but there are tulips, muscari, and some late narcissi still to come. A couple of my terracotta pots have cracked, and ironically, it is the ones that I carefully put on ‘feet’ to protect them. You can just see the wobbly stripes of the lawn in the background.
2. New purchase
Erysimum ‘Poem Lavender ’ is rather pretty, and I hope it does well.
3. Daffs
The always reliable Tête-à-tête which I’m very pleased to say the slugs don’t seem to enjoy as much as Jetfire.
4. Ipheion ‘Wisley Blue’
Another new purchase whilst whiling away a rainy hour at the garden centre. Its other name is Spring starflower, and as it’s in bloom, that must mean it’s spring……
5. Purple crocus
I didn’t realise I had so many.
6. Hellebore
I can’t remember the name of this one, but it’s a lovely two-tone purple.
After the wettest February ever, we can only hope that March will see an improvement. I can see a slug battle ahead thanks to the mild winter temperatures, so no doubt that will be a recurring theme in 2024.
Have a great weekend, and thanks for reading.
