My Little Garden 30th Dec 2023

Christmas is over. The presents have been opened, the turkey has been eaten, and the annual trip to the local pantomime has been and gone for another year. It’s very nice to emerge unscathed from the festivities, and I feel I can properly look forward to the new year now.

I won’t mention the dire weather, but I had to go out in the rain to look for anything vaguely interesting to take a photo of, and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Not much is what you’d call photogenic, but things are looking hopeful, and this is what I found for Six on Saturday.

  1. Mahonia

A lovely bright yellow in a gloomy corner.

2. Tassels

I’ve shared this plant before, but Garrya eliptica ‘James Roof’ is having a superb year.

3. Snowdrops

These are coming on nicely, and I’ll look up which variety they are when they open.

4. Hellebore

Ice ‘n Roses is also showing promise.

5. A hint of a crocus

A little bit further to go for these early crocuses.

6. Orchid

Ok, it’s not in my garden, but at a time when finding interest in the garden is a little challenging, there may be an odd houseplant or two.

And that’s it for the last Saturday in December. Hope you all had a good Christmas, and I wish you all the best for the New Year. Happy gardening.
