My Little Garden 30th March 2024
Over the last week, I’ve been to a Plant Fair (and bought plants), spent two days in Wales (looking at plants in gardens), and spent two days faffing about with the plants in my own garden.
On the trip to Wales, I had the husband with me, so no expenditure occurred (he has no idea of plant prices, and I like to keep it that way). It has to be said that he has very little interest in plants at all, so I’m quite surprised that he agreed to not just one but two garden related trips in the first part of the year. He must be buttering me up, so I’ll agree to him going on a golfing holiday with his chums. Anyway, I’m not complaining as the next one involves a visit to the tulip festival at Morton Hall Gardens, a place that has been on my wishlist for ages.
After all the excitement of the week, I’m focusing on plants in and around my stone circle for my Six on Saturday choices, and here they are.
- Narcissi ‘Geranium'
I’ve been waiting, not too patiently, for these to open. Aren’t they lovely.
2. Narcissi ‘Jack Snipe’
A rather more dainty little daff that’s been around in the adjacent border for a few years now.
3. Tulipa ‘Exotic Emporer’
A new variety for me that I’m trying out in a pot.
4. Muscari ‘Ocean Magic’
A pretty pale ish blue variety.
5. Muscari ‘Grape Ice’
My favourite for this year. They transplant to borders very well, so I just have to decide where they are going.
6. The bigger picture
This is the circle and it’s borders. The middle is a water bowl, and I’ve surrounded it with pots full of spring potential. The circle has also been extended most of the way round to create extra planting opportunities because in a small garden, it is so important to maximise the available space. On the right is a raised planting bed constructed of bricks. Originally, this housed a water feature but has been repurposed. My witch-hazel is now in the centre, and hopefully, the alliums surrounding it will provide a display for this year. I’ll keep you posted on the new planting!
Wishing you a very enjoyable Easter holiday weekend, and thank you for reading.
