My Little Garden 31st August 2024

These last few weeks have flown by. A trip to Iceland and Norway, followed by looking after grandchildren and trying to catch up on everything else. The social media break was much needed, but it’s nice to be back. What have I missed? Are everyone’s gardens thriving? Have spring bulbs been ordered?

My garden is looking ok (ish), considering it was neglected for the best part of three weeks. A few plants have finished flowering a little early, but I’ve been ruthlessly deadheading, and given them a little tlc, so I’m cautiously hopeful that a few more flowers might appear.

The slugs have grown into monsters over the summer and are still munching anything they can find. And when I say anything, I found a group of them disposing of a dead mouse last week. It was like a scene from a horror movie: I thought they were vegetarians!

Anyway, lets move on to my first Six on Saturday for a month.

  1. Tomatoes

Tumbling Tom in a container with a few fruits starting to turn red. They’ve been so slow, but they taste really nice.

2. Pulmonaria ‘Northern Lights’

It hasn’t been happy this year, so I’ve moved it and been rewarded by some late flowers which smell as lovely as they look.

3. Rudbeckia Goldsturm

Perfect for an end of summer splash of yellow.

4. Japanese anemone

These have been in my garden for years and are a shade of pink that works beautifully with Rosa ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ planted nearby.

5. Spires

A mix of Verbascum ‘Southern Charm’ and Salvia nemerosa ‘Amethyst’, which have flowered all summer.

6. Anemone ‘Frilly Knickers’

Looking a little worse for wear it has to be said….

That’s it from me. It’s nice to be back and I’m looking forward to seeing all your photos and reading your blogs.

Happy gardening and see you next week.
