My Little Garden 3rd December 2022
It’s getting quite hard to find enough interesting (and photogenic) ‘things’ to share for Six on Saturday. But I like a challenge, and December is a time of year when I can hunt out little gems with the macro lens on the camera. For the first time in a very long while, the camera has had a couple of weeks rest, and I’ve only been taking photos with the phone. The images are good with most phones these days, but I really enjoy using the proper camera and I’ve regained my enthusiasm now that I have a little more time again.
On my garden hunt this week I took a close look at the things that I might have ignored a few weeks ago.
- Viola
A bit nibbled around the edges, but it’s still very welcome.
2. Leaves
I used to have an Acer palmatum tree, but it wasn’t in the best condition and I took the decision about 3 or 4 years ago to cut it down to create space for a sunny perennial bed. A very small stump remains and from time to time a bit of growth appears. I usually cut this off thinking the Acer will eventually give up, but after the summer drought, I just left it alone. At the beginning of December the new leaves are only just changing colour. How long will they last? Will I get bright red foliage?
3. Seeds
Echinacea purpurea ‘Rubinstern’ seeds to be precise. I’ve never tried to grow Echinacea from seed before, but I may just give it a whirl.
4. Viburnum
Charles Lamont smells delicious, and on the rare occasion when the rain stops I can enjoy it from the nearby swingseat.
5. Gaura
The last flower standing on ‘Rosy-Jane’.
6. The last rose bud
I thought I’d pick this one. Partly to take a photo on the glass table which was covered in rain drops, and partly to enjoy in a little bud vase. It lasted 5 days before the petals dropped.
And on that happy note, have a great weekend and thank you for reading.
