My Little Garden 4th March
This week, I had a little delivery of bare root plants from Farmer Gracy, which included Lamprocapnos ‘Cupid’. I ordered the same plant this time last year, but instead of a lovely pale pink flower, it turned out to be the bog standard variety. Which is also very nice, but I have one and dont particularly want another.
I also ordered some Gladiolus byzantine bulbs and three Rosa ‘Cutie Pie’ which is a pretty little miniature rose that I’m going to use as a front of border plant.
A poor excuse, but partly due to the work on the kitchen, which is now fully functioning but awaiting the flooring, I haven’t started on any seed sowing yet, but next week could be the week. I need to check what seeds I’ve got, but I’ve also bought some godetia after seeing them in the Colourwheel Cutting Garden last year. Mine are a dwarf variety so, I’m going to try them in a large container and see what happens.
Anyway, enough of the waffle, and on to my six garden choices for the first week in March.
1. Hellebore of the week
A nice little pinky white one whose name I forget, but I strongly suspect I might have said the same last year.
2. The first daffs
I ventured into the alien territory of the front garden to take a photo of these little Tete-a-tete. I also have a few Narcissus ‘Jetfire’ just starting to open.
3. White crocus
When the yellow ones flopped, the white ones opened.
4. Wallflower
A little impulse buy from the garden centre. I lost a perennial one over winter so I felt the urge to replace it.
5. Viburnum and blue sky
We haven’t had too much blue sky this week, but when we did, it was a perfect backdrop to the last of the viburnum flowers.
6. Bleeding Heart
This Bleeding Heart / Dicentra / Lamprocapnos produced it’s first tiny flower in the cold of January, and look at it now. Full blown floriferousness in early March. I suspect its body clock is still very confused.
And that’s it for the first week in March. Cold weather is forecast for next, including a touch of snow, which I always dread in my little electric car.

And there will hopefully be oodles of spring photos on the #SixonSaturday hashtag on twitter.
Have a great weekend.
