My Little Garden 5th March 2022
In a week dominated by the awful news from Ukraine, the month of March quietly arrived along with a teeny bit of sunshine. Not quite enough sunshine to try and kid us that it was spring, but sufficient for the crocus to open up and the garden to put on a bit of a growth spurt.
The snowdrops are pretty much over for another year, but I have a new arrival thanks to a very generous gift from my friend John Bent, whose garden has been open for the National Garden Scheme charity throughout February. More on this later as part of my six choices.
My new swing seat also arrived this week, on a day when even a teeny bit of sunshine was lacking. After abandoning all thoughts of gardening myself that day, I felt so sorry for the delivery driver who had the task of assembling it in torrential rain.
I’ll share a picture of the swing seat next week, but for now lets get started on the six floral choices for this week.
- Crocus
These have been the stars of my little garden this week. The ones in the header shot are Crocus sieberi ‘Firefly’ that I featured last week, and the ones below are some of the purple ones with no name.
2. Iris Harmony
Another lovely blue iris has joined the party.
3. Daffodils
Jetfire is almost open. Today will probably be the day.
4. Hellebores
I love the photos people take of floating hellebore arrangements so I thought I’d get in on the act. I didn’t have quite the right size of bowl so a serving dish had to suffice this time. It’s a perfect way to display these beautiful winter flowers.
5. Wildlife
The odd day of sun this week has brought both bees and hoverflies to the crocus.
6. Galanthus pilatus ‘Wendy’s Gold’
I’ve always admired the yellow snowdrops, and this is the one I was given last weekend. The bulbs were planted with their leaves, and I enjoyed the flowers in a little vase for a few days. Thank you so much John.
And that’s it for another Saturday. As the weather’s looking good, I shall be trying out the swing seat later, but not before I’ve checked out all the other sixes on twitter via #SixonSaturday and The Propagator’s blog.

Have a good weekend!
