My Little Garden 6th August 2022

A brief Six on Saturday, as I’m writing this on Saturday morning before heading off on a little weekend jaunt to take in a garden or two, starting with the Dorothy Clive garden in Shropshire. It’s been a few years since I last visited and I’m looking forward to it immensely.

Luckily we’ve had rain here again this week, so the garden is doing ok with just minimal watering help, and these are some of the highlights of early August.

1.Roses

A new month and a second blooming of the summer for Rosa Gertrude Jekyll. To be truthful, there’s only one flower at the moment, but loads of buds to come, and my other roses are showing encouraging signs too.

2. Rudbeckia

This one is ‘Goldsturm’ and I’ve grown it in the front garden for years. Last summer I ended up with a spare plant, because I over bought when ordering for a client, so I popped it in the back garden on a whim. It looked ok in late summer last year with the deep purple and magenta of the asters, but right now I’m not convinced. It’s very ‘yellow’ in garden of mainly pastel shades…

3 . Dahlia

Lots more blooms opening on this ‘Honka Rose’ now and whilst I’m still keeping an eye out for the slugs, it’s big and tough enough to deal with them.

4. Aster

The first of the asters to flower, and I’m just waiting for ‘Monch’ to attract some flutterbys.

5. Echinops

This is the first year that this plant has made any sort of an effort and I hope it continues to thrive.

6. Cosmos

This large pot of white cosmos sits at the very back of the garden and looks like it’s part of the border itself. A great way to fill in a few gaps in August and September.

And another week has gone by in a whirl of granddaughter outings and bits of work. I’m starting to worry that I might not get everything done that I need to before the end of summer, so a bit more effort is required next week.

But first, let’s enjoy the weekend and lots of summer #sixonsaturday blogs and photos on twitter thanks to The Propagator a few years back. https://thepropagatorblog.wordpress.com/

Thank you for reading!
