My Little Garden 6th May 2023
It’s been one of those slightly frustrating weeks when I feel like I’ve been very busy but achieved very little. It started with a bank holiday when I had so much to do that it wasn’t a day off, but I still faffed around.
On Tuesday, I had the youngest granddaughters for the whole day, instead of just after school, because it was a strike day for the teachers. Fortunately, the weather was lovely, so we could leave the invalid husband home alone and escape for a few hours.
Wednesday saw me trying to deal with an extremely weedy border that I’m supposed to be planting up with perennials next week. The first shrubs went in about a month ago, but have they been watered? Nope….
And then a couple of hospital appointments for my patient, followed by two afternoons of school runs. And here we are on a Saturday morning again.
Fortunately for my sanity, the garden is a riot of tulip colour, and whilst not entirely weed free, they are hiding away quite nicely and can stay there at least until tomorrow.
I won’t start with tulips for my six on Saturday this week, as there’s so much more going on, but they may sneak in. You have been warned….
- Geranium phaeum
Growing in the shadiest part of the garden, Geranium ‘Lily Lovell’ is a real star and a favourite with the bees. It’s offspring tend to be white. I’ve no idea why, but I must find out.
2. Geum
‘Tales of Hex’ was bought as a bare root last spring and took ages to get going. I really wanted a pale yellow variety, and this fits the bill perfectly. Hopefully lots more flowers to follow.
3. Tulip acuminata
A very interesting little tulip that I really like.
4. Lamprocapnos ‘Cupid’
I’ve waited two years for this after the wrong variety was delivered last year. What do you think? I’m slightly underwhelmed, but it is pretty.
5. Tulip ‘Cummins’
Interesting frilly bits, but otherwise also underwhelming.
6. Frothy stuff
Last year’s plant must have self seeded, or walked to a new location. Anthriscus silvestris ‘Ravenswing’ has pretty purple stems, and I’m so taken with it that I’m adding a few more.
And that’s your lot. I’m off to Bluebell Cottage Gardens this morning to pick up a few plants, including the above. I might miss the coronation, but spending Saturday morning watching TV doesn’t appeal.
Have a great weekend.
