My Little Garden 7th Dec 2024
It’s getting increasingly difficult to find things in the garden that I feel will come across as remotely interesting. To me, the first sight of snowdrop shoots is super exciting but let’s face it, the accompanying photo isn’t likely to appeal to anyone else.
The hard landscaping work is progressing slowly for various reasons outside my control. It’s frustrating, but I guess it’s the price you pay for having work done in December. I have every confidence in the landscaper so I know we will get there.
This is my last six from the garden this year, but I might do a review of the year in the next couple of weeks. For now, I’ll start with the patio.
- Paving update
We had the picture window in the dining room replaced about 3 months ago. It was double glazed but quite old and the wood was rotting, so now we have sliding doors and new access to the back garden. Previously we had pebbles here to link the old patio with the brick structure that was once a water feature, but have now opted for paving throughout. The edges will be curved when it is finished with lots of room for more plants.
2. First shoots
Iris ‘Alida’ starting to pop through the gravel.
3. Viburnum
A shrub that never comes across particularly well in photos, but its pink flowers smell wonderful.
4. Hellebore buds
Always exciting to see the first hint of hellebore flowers.
5. Last summer purchase
Bought at the RHS Tatton flower show in the summer, this garden ornament is also a useful perching place for the robin. Unfortunately, he declined to cooperate at the time the photo needed to be taken.
6. Cyclamen coum
And last but not least, the little cyclamen coum flowering away.
That’s it from me. Stay safe in Storm Darragh.
