My Little Garden 8th October 2022

Another week of heavy showers has meant that I’ve been concentrating on writing projects and the ‘paperwork’ part of various planting plans. When the rain occasionally stopped, diving (no pun intended) out into the garden was a welcome relief from the office.

The garden is still amazingly colourful and the grass has never been this green (or grown so fast). Bulb orders have arrived, and I need to get planting everything except the tulips, or time will run away with me. Hopefully, there will be a few dry hours over the weekend, and in the meantime here’s my Six on Saturday.

  1. Rose

The star of the garden this week has to be Rosa ‘Ballerina’. You’d think that it was June again looking at the amount of flowers and buds.

2. Cosmos

The cosmos that is growing both vertically and horizontally after its mishap with an almost severed stem earlier in the year, is still producing loads of flowers. It has lasted so much longer that the cosmos in pots that suffered a week of neglect when I was on holiday.

3. Japanese aster

This is a lovely little perennial called Kalimeris yomena ‘Shogun’ which has pretty foliage throughout summer and a late display of little lilac flowers. An understated star.

4. Grass

Nassella tenuissima to be precise, accompanied by Catananche caerulea, Achillea ‘Pretty Belinda’ and Erigeron ‘Lavender Lady’. I will be widening this border, which partly surround a paved circle, next week so that I can squeeze lots of little bulbs in.

5. Something more autumnal

The leaves of the amelanchier definitely think it’s October.

6. Crab apples

This little tree is still groaning under the weight of its fruit. A few have fallen off in the wind this week and hopefully the birds will reduce its burden soon as well.

And another week has passed by. Have a great weekend and a gentle reminder that there are lots more ‘sixes’ to be found on twitter under the hashtag #SixonSaturday.

Thank you for reading and see you next week.
