My Little Garden 9th Dec 2023

What a mixed bag of weather we’ve had this week. Everything from cold and frosty to wet and miserable. The ice in the water bowl was still solid on Thursday from the first big freeze, and any wildlife visitors who usually come for a drink of water have been disappointed. Even though I have a smaller bird bath for these sorts of emergencies, the wood pigeons still look very confused.

I’ve been finishing off a design for some clients this week, which has necessitated a couple of days indoors, and the timing couldn’t have been better. Especially as my poor little useless electric car is in the garage awaiting a part from Russia!

Continuing with my review of the past year in my little garden (breaking the six on Saturday rules again), I’m looking back at the period April to June, which are my favourite months. These are my six.

  1. Blossom

From my Crab Apple tree. Isn’t it just beautiful.

This how it looked last week.

2. Tulips

I love tulips and this one called ‘Greenland’ is a firm favourite.

3. Clematis

A little one called Bijou. Perfect for a pot and it was still valiantly trying to produce flowers in November.

4. Rose

Handel won the race for the first rose to flower in my garden this year.

5. Salvia

The deep blue of Caradonna emerged as the alliums started to fade.

6. Campanula

This one flowered prolifically in the shady corner.

Looking back to spring and early summer almost makes me want to wish the next few months away. Fortunately, there’s the early spring bulbs to look forward in the next weeks.

Have a good weekend, and thank you for reading.
