My Little Garden 9th Nov 2024

A quick garden tour from me this week, written on a balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, whilst I listen to the waves crashing onto the rocks below.

The photos were taken at the beginning of the week, after the garden was tidied and the last of the pots prepared for tulips. I hope the squirrel is seriously disappointed that there’s no bulbs in any of them. Perhaps it will give up on its mission to destroy my spring display. I’ll find out soon….

I like to convince myself that I enjoy this time of the year, but the reality is that I only want to prepare for next year. I am patient because I know that without winter, there would be no spring. And I just can’t imagine living in a place where the seasons merge into one. Anyway, here are my six for the week.

  1. Geranium Rozanne

She still thinks that it’s summer, thanks to the mild weather.

2. Catkins

Not as many this year as the Garrya had a serious prune.

3. Erysimum ‘Poem Lavender’

Will it have the staying power of ‘Bowles Mauve’?

4. Hydrangea

The name for this is long lost, but it could be ‘Shooting Star’. It’s grown well this year after a good prune, but hasn’t had as many flowers as usual.

5. Crab apples

Those that remain are starting to decay now.

6. Mahonia

And finally, a shrub that is at its best in November.

That’s all from me. Have a great weekend.
