My Little Garden 9th Sept 2023
As much as I love travelling and holidays, it’s always nice to come home and see what’s been happening in the garden. We might only have been away a week, but the grass had grown about 6 inches so I’m guessing that there had been a fair bit of rain.
What was really nice is that we came back to glorious sunshine and temperatures warmer than we’d seen for the previous two months. Just in time for the children to go back to school…..
The combination of rain and sun had clearly encouraged some of the flowers that had been lagging behind, so I can show you a couple of the plants that I’d almost given up on. Fortunately, I took photos before it rained sand from the Sahara early on Thursday morning. It was so strange to see everything covered in the stuff and the car looking like it hadn’t been cleaned in a year. Anyway, onto the garden.
- Zinnia
The zinnias that had so far only served as slug food managed to produce a few blooms. I’ve never had one this colour before.
2. Crab apple
The crab apples are colouring up nicely.
The colour perfectly matches the patch of rudbeckia nearby.
3. Butterfly bait
The verbena is last providing some sustenance for passing butterflies. Not that I managed to get a photo of one.
4. September colours
The hydrangea is now mostly definitely a shade of September pink.
5. Clematis
Clematis Bijou has decided to produce some more flowers which I think is the first time it has done this. Perhaps due to the fact that I usually ignore (neglect) it after the flush in late spring / early summer.
6. And finally
I give you cosmos. On the one hand ‘finally’ because it’s the last of my six this week, but also ‘finally’ because I’ve waited a ridiculously long time for it to flower.
And that’s it for this week. Have a great weekend and enjoy what’s left of our little heatwave.
