My Little Garden in Week 15 of Lockdown
This is possibly the last of the Lockdown garden diaries from me - or is that just tempting fate….. Looking at the situation in Leicester this week and the emergence of the ‘interesting’ Pillar 2 stats which show the much higher prevalence of the virus in the community than we were being led to believe, I suspect that more local lockdowns may be enforced in the weeks to come.
As I said last week, I am not tempted by a night out at the pub at this stage, but I am very much looking forward to a hair cut today. There might even be a new profile pic!
But for more important matters, and in a week where July arrived in a typical English summer fashion accompanied by wind and rain in bucket loads, what’s been happening in the garden.
1.The Jasmine is in bloom and covering the arbour. A totally neglected plant and it seems to thrive on it. The arbour really needs some maintenance, and I would like to paint it, but the two are entwined so it might prove a bit tricky - a decision for autumn. On the other hand, as it’s so dilapidated, maybe it’s time to replace it with a Sitting Spiritually Swing Seat that I’ve long coveted! https://www.sittingspiritually.co.uk/garden-swing-seats
2. l’m really happy with this rose and clematis combination that’s just starting to fill the gap on the back fence. I think the Clematis is Margot Koster but it was a bargain buy and unfortunately I can’t find the label.
3. This little plant is hard to do justice to when you try and photograph it on it’s own. It’s such a pretty little verbena with dark purple leaves and little flowers that works well in my sunny border. One of those plants that you can leave over winter and just cut back in spring.
4. I planted this achillea last year and I think it was labelled ‘Summer pastels’. Achillea don’t tend to do very well for me so I didn’t have high hopes for it, but it thrived. I’m not sure I like the colour clashing with Geranium ‘Ann Folkhard’ in the bottom right so I may move it next spring. I’ve added a couple of Achillea ‘Cerise Queen’ recently and I think they will work much better in this area.
The colours on this achillea vary considerably as you can see.

5. This is a not very good shot of a compact little sanguisorba that I’ve planted at the front of the border. Lovely variegated leaves and maroon flowers. Ignore the weed poking through the middle which I didn’t notice until I downloaded the photos! One of the little gems to be found at Bluebell Cottage Garden.

6. And I’ll leave you with a suitably rainy photo of ‘Elin’ aka The Triffid taken after the rain earlier this week. Bowed down a little under the weight of the deluge but still looking very lovely.
And that’s it for this week. It may well be my last Lockdown Garden Diary blog but definitely not my last Six On Saturday. And as I only started in week 3 of Lockdown, I may do a couple of retrospective blogs as I intend to save them for my grandaughters to read in a few years time. These will be on the website in due course.
