My little Garden in Week 2 of Lockdown
This is the second of my lockdown blogs that I am writing retrospectively, and actually it’s been good to look back at what was happening in the garden all those weeks ago.
In week 2 we were getting used to only going out to the shops or for an hour of exercise a day. We were NOT getting used to only seeing our granddaughters on a video chat. And at the other end of the age spectrum, my auntie in law who is in her 80’s and completely opposed to all 21st century technology, had to get used to phone calls and food drop offs rather than visits.
Happily, the weather continued to be good and at least we could spend lots of time outdoors. These are my retrospective favourites for the first week in April.
1.I’ll start with some hyacinths. Lots of blue ones crammed into a pot. This was taken before they started to flop.
2. And this is my Japanese Azalea that didn’t bother to flower last year. Not really expecting it to do much this year, I didn’t give much thought to the tulips that were planted in front of it. Bright red and shocking pink aren’t the perfect combination.
3.Here are the aforementioned red tulips just starting to open. They are planted alongside Tulip ‘Spring Green’ and Tulip Black Hero’. There should be more of the white Tete a Tete in the background but they’ve let me down in year two of flowering.
4. This is one of the new hellebores planted alongside Narcissi W P Milner. Something had been nibbling the Mr Milner!
5.Forget-me-nots are popping up all over the place. An essential for the spring garden but I’ll be more ruthless with them this year to avoid too many little ones.
6.And my final offering for this week is a pollen covered little pollinator who took a liking to Tulip ‘Purple Prince’.
And that’s the end of the retrospective blogs. All the future ones were written on a week by week basis and i’m sad to say that almost 5 months on Greater Manchester is entering week 3 of a second lockdown. When will it end?
