My Little Garden in week 4 of Lockdown

Well here we are at the end of another week. It can’t have been a surprise to anyone that the Covid-19 lockdown has been extended and whilst I don’t have much design or planting work, it’s a bonus to have time to spend in my own garden. And thanks to all the tulip bulbs planted last autumn it’s also looking very colourful.

So what’s been happening this week? Here’s my Six on Saturday.

1. This Mixed Muscari is growing in a pot and I really like the different heights and colours even though the common mid blue sort dominate. I shall specifically buy some pale ones next autumn.

Muscari or Grape Hyacinth

2. This is the east facing border which is a mixture of shrubs and perennials and, at this time of year, lots of tulips. This spring I’ve gone for a mixture of Negrita, Orange Cassini and Lambada as I always love the combination of orange and purple. The wallflower in the foreground is a perennial variety called Erysimum ‘Pastel Patchwork’ which I bought from Bud Garden Centre a few weeks ago. I think it will work well with the Physocarpus at the back of the border after the tulips have gone.

3. I think T. Lambada deserves a photo all of it’s own as it’s so gorgeous!

4. I really like the white daffodils and Thalia is definitely very white. The scent is not as good as Actaea though in my opinion.

Narcissus Thalia

5. The big excitement of the week for me was when an Orange Tip butterfly took a liking to the forget-me-not flowers long enough for me to take a quick photo.

6. And finally, I make no apologies for another tulip shot. The ones in foreground are supposed to be Atlantis but I’m not convinced. I’ve grown them before and I really don’t think they were this pale. I shall be monitoring closely over the next few days!

More tulips

And that is my Six On Saturday for this week. I hope you’ve enjoyed a quick look at my garden highlights and for more ‘sixes’ take a look at the site of the creator of this weekly collection. His Six on Saturday is always an excellent read and there are many more photos and blogs on twitter under the hashtag #SixonSaturday
