My Little Garden in Week 9 of Lockdown
Is it week 9 already? Another bank holiday weekend has arrived and life is plodding on in much the same way as it has been for the last 8 weeks. Our new normal!
I am starting to get a few more enquiries for new garden and planting designs so now that I can ‘socially distance’ outside, with a person from another household, it’s possible to have a reasonable conversation to get the project started. I also had a very pleasant coffee and catch up this week (I took a flask) in the garden of my good friend Christine who was originally the other half of the renaissance garden design team.
So what’s been happening in my little garden. Here are my six on Saturday for this week.
1.This is Allium christophii which was just starting to open this time last week. I love the little star-shaped flowers. And that’s the first flower of Geranium ‘Red Admiral in the background.
2. I have two lavender bushes in pots. This one has loads of buds but the other, to put it mildly, is looking a little pathetic. They are in identical planting conditions so I’m not sure why this happening and I’m slightly annoyed. The husband is even more annoyed because I keep grumbling about it.
3. My peony is just starting to open and has lots of buds. I really like this one and it definitely suits it’s name of ‘Bowl of Beauty’. Better photos next week when it opens fully (assuming it survives the wind).
4. The aquilegia are still going strong and the bees love them. A colony of bumble bees also appears to have taken up residence in the roof void of the ground floor extension. And very buzzy they are too….. I hope they leave home in due course.
5. All the summer flowering clematis are coming on really well now. This is ‘Arabella’ emerging from the camellia leaves. It’s doesn’t have the showiest of blooms but it flowers for much longer than any of the other clematis in the garden, so I’m always very pleased with it.
6. Now this one is a really exuberant variety called Mrs N Thompson. Not the prettiest of names but the colours are really striking and I think it looks good next to this golden berberis.
And that is my Six On Saturday for this week. I hope you’ve enjoyed a quick look at my garden highlights and for more ‘sixes’ take a look at the site of the creator of this weekly collection. His Six on Saturday is always an excellent read and there are many more photos and blogs on twitter under the hashtag #SixonSaturday
