Post card from Tenerife
There’s no blog about my little garden this week, because I’ve been in sunny Tenerife and there’s been no time, in daylight anyway, to take photos of my garden descending into late autumn.
Just for a change though, I thought I’d share a few shots of the place where we were staying last week: a place where the sun has been shining and the rain is nowhere to be seen. Los Gigantes is one of the quieter resorts in Tenerife and gets its name from the magnificent giant cliffs that overlook the village. When we first came to the island in the 1980s Los Gigantes was considerably smaller, with one hotel, a church in the central square and a pretty little harbour. We’ve stayed in various parts of the island over the years and explored its many beautiful corners, from the very top of Mount Teide to the lush walk downhill from Masca to the coast.
Almost 40 years on, and despite travelling to some far flung places around the globe, we still return almost annually for a few days of rest and relaxation, so for one week only, here’s my six ‘things’ from Tenerife.
- Sunset views
The island of La Gomera which lies off the west coast of Tenerife.
2. Bougainvillea
Bright pink against a background of blue sky. I would definitely want one of these if I lived here.
3. Palm tree and pelargonium
4. Red flowers
A variety of euphorbia I think (but happy to be corrected), making a very colourful display out side a local restaurant.
5. Yellow flowers and sea views
I think this is nicotiana.
6. Senecio seed heads
As you will have surmised, my knowledge of Canarian plants is quite basic, and there were no flowers left to help with the ID, so this is another guess - Kleinia neriifolia aka Senecio.
With special thanks to a plant id app which shall remain nameless unless I know it’s accurate (I’ve never found one that is yet!)
Have a great weekend. Next week will be #mylittlegarden again.
